PROGRAM OVERVIEW This session will discuss the rules surrounding open and closed meetings for hospital governing boards, including agendas, advance notice, confidentiality, electronic meetings, recordings and public records. This presentation will compare the rules for nonprofit hospitals and government-owned hospitals and discuss situations in which these distinct types of entities are subject to different rules. This presentation also will cover advisory bodies and committees and explain rules affecting these groups. To provide context, this presentation will analyze legal decisions involving open meetings laws and discuss the legal implications of violations. Last, this presentation will provide a brief history and update on the Iowa attorney general’s oversight and enforcement in this area.
