Second Olympia school bus driver accused of sex abuse

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- For the second time in five years a former Olympia school bus driver has been accused of child rape against a student on his bus. It turns out the two men were roommates at one time. The latest alleged incidents actually happened years ago, but are just now coming to light.

For the last 15 years Jimmy Wall drove a school bus for the Olympia district. Court papers say he befriended one of his riders on his bus and started taking him on personal one-to-one outings to parks to do what's called "geocaching" using GPS to find things.

The boy says that turned into molestation and then child rape. These alleged incidents happened in 2007 and 2008, but Olympia police say the alleged victim didn't come forward until just recently.

That boy was 10 years old at the time and a student at Madison elementary where he says some of the alleged assaults occurred. He is now 18.

"That's sad that he couldn't come forward, because that has to be so sad that he had to live with that especially through his youth," said Olympia school district parent and grandparent Colleen Hays.

This is the second former Olympia school district bus driver to face such serious charges. Back in 2011, Gary Shafer was convicted of raping and molesting three young girls from his bus. Olympia police say Shafer and Wall were roommates at one time and a detective interviewed Shafer in prison.

Court documents say, "Shafer indicated he remembered the Defendant taking kids geocaching on multiple occasions. He specifically remembered the Defendant taking (the alleged victim) on several occasions."

"When asked how he felt about Wall spending time alone with kids, he said that he found it strange."

But Wall's attorney Wayne Fricke claims the alleged victim in this case tried to be included in the Shafer case and million dollar settlement to no avail. In court Fricke said, "When that didn't pan out and it didn't look like that was going to fly he then changed the alleged perpetrator to Mr. Wall."

Fricke says his client even passed a lie detector test on this case. Wall pleaded not guilty to all charges and is being held on $300,000 bail.

The district said it did background checks on both drivers and nothing showed up. Wall resigned his school bus job March 30th to drive a city bus, but now he's in jail.
