Sleep Stories to help you fall into a deep and natural sleep.

Oscar

I recently completed the 7 Days of Calm and found it to be really effective in reducing my anxieties and improving my focus. I can see this being a useful tool for handling the roller coaster lifestyle that a college student faces.

Sarah

University of Washington

I’ve only been using Calm for 3 weeks, but I’m already starting to experience the benefits of a calmer and clearer mind. Even my friends have pointed out that I seem more relaxed than usual.

Noel

College of the Redwoods

I started using Calm about 3 weeks ago. It has dramatically helped me with my insomnia and anxiety issues. I am thrilled to not need medication and be able to learn how to train my mind through meditation. The narrator’s voice is wonderful, and I plan to stick with this daily.

Brian

Pepperdine University

This app is absolutely amazing. Calm has helped me be a better version of myself. I am more balanced, and perform better academically because of the focus exercises. It even helps me sleep better!

Frequently asked questions

What’s the story behind Calm College?

In May 2016, Calm.com rolled out an initiative called Calm Schools in response to the research demonstrating meditation’s amazing benefits for students. Our vision was to equip K-12 American school-children with the transformational tools of meditation. Since then, Calm has provided tens of thousands of teachers with resources to educate their students in mindfulness meditation.

Now, Calm Schools is graduating. Our newest initiative, Calm College, shares a similar vision. Our app has been a hit among the college demographic for years, and is partnering with Universities to provide free mindfulness resources to college students around the country.

Are there scientifically proven benefits to mindfulness?

There are over 3,000 scientific studies on mindfulness, with over 75 proven benefits! Meditation can enhance focus, reduce stress and anxiety, improve sleep, and augment working memory — all pretty important for the modern day college student.

With the help of research institutions like Arizona State University and the Mayo Clinic, Calm is in the process of running clinical trials to provide empirical evidence for our mindfulness content. Until results are published, we’ll let our app store reviews do the talking.

What about the content? How will students relate to that?

In addition to our existing library, we are also developing the “College Collection”, a mindfulness program specially designed to meet the needs and language of the modern day college student. This collection of exercises will focus on how to apply mindfulness into everyday college life, such as studying in the library, focusing in class, or de-stressing during an exam.

What in the world is a “sleep story”?

We’re glad you asked. Remember how much you enjoyed being read bedtime tales as a child? Sleep Stories are the adult equivalent, told by soothing storytellers and celebrity narrators. Focusing the mind towards a calming story is an enjoyable and natural way to drift off into a healthy, peaceful slumber. Explore the sounds of Yosemite, hop aboard the Trans-Siberian Railroad, or re-listen to classics such as The Wind and The Willows on the Calm app. A recent study found that 73% of college students report sleep disturbances and insomnia, so a little story time can go a long way.

What data do you collect on students? Do you share it?

Our intention is to share meditation with the world, not data. The minimal user data we do collect enables us to analyze usage statistics on the app. To make sure Calm College is making an observable impact, we work with universities to provide stats on downloads, usage, retention, and other key metrics. Otherwise, the only security information that Calm collects is a username, password, and first name.

What devices can Calm be used on?

The Calm app is compatible on iOS and Android mobile devices, and can be downloaded from the iTunes App Store or Google Play store. Our full library of content can also be accessed by web at calm.com
