What is the Justice & Equity Fellowship? 

​

The Justice & Equity Fellowship is a five-week program aimed at equipping our future leaders with the knowledge, experience, and networks to become the transformational change agents we need to bring an end to systemic racism and inequity.

Our fellows will be empowered through hands-on training and heart-centered mentorship to become the next generation of community organizers, policy advocates, and more. Our fellows will be provided a weekly stipend to help alleviate the barriers that exist when pursuing internships, fellowship programs, and other similar leadership opportunities.

How does it work? 

 

BMR has developed an exciting, robust curriculum that we're ready to share! Fellows will participate in virtual, cohort-based learning sessions to build foundational knowledge (heavy emphasis on 'foundational' because these topics can be courses of their own!) on topics ranging from the History of Systemic Racism to the Foundations of Public Policy Advocacy. Fellows will choose one area of specification and will be matched with a partner organization/company in the BMR network to begin applying the knowledge and skills in the workplace. The Fellowship will conclude with a capstone presentation, followed by a graduation to celebrate our inaugural fellows.

Who's eligible? 

 

This Fellowship is aimed at students between the ages of 16 and 23 years old that are enrolled in high school,  community college, a four-year institution, or trades program. The student must be a resident of Cook County.

 

An ideal fellow is a student that's: looking for an introduction into community organizing and public policy work; interested in networking with other young people and industry leaders; seeking professional development and mentorship in the public sector
