Book of Sindal #2

Reign of Mist

Rate this book
Rowan might be the firstborn of the Whelan sisters, but her magic is far from first class. Outshone by her younger sisters’ rare and powerful gifts hasn’t been easy, but she has always taken her position as leader of their family seriously. Even more seriously when her sisters are endangered and they lose—yet again—the Book of Sindal, a magical tome of evil spells and incantations their small coven of three has been tasked to protect.

When the Dark Set, a group of mages determined to take over the magical community, comes for Rowan, she turns to an unexpected and very human source. Local cop Logan Gillespie might not be a mage, but he’s not to be underestimated.

The question is why Rowan? As the weakest witch, she shouldn’t be of interest to the Dark Set. Yet they’re sure she’s the secret to unlocking the power of the book.

Can she convince them they’re wrong? She has to find a way because the lives of her sisters, Logan, and possibly the world depend on it.

Where to even begin? I loved this book much more than I could imagine! I'm still under the spell of Reign of Mist (Book of Sindal#2) It captivated me from the very first page until the very last one and yet it don't let me go. Somehow I didn't see this coming because I was still all and good in the previous - Phoebe's story though I was head over heels excited for Rowan's story! I don't know how Denise Grover Swank & Alessandra Thomas does it but this book hit home - like lightning, shockingly painful. It was me who felt everything Rowan felt, her struggling being overlooked, rejected, underestimated, everything Rowan went through. I adored Rowan how strong she really was. Such an amazing character, sassy as hell. Magical powers and love against powers and evil! Oh yessss! Logan is perfect match for her!
If you want to know more about them and this story, you should pick this book (I mean this series), you are going to fall in love!

Reign of Mist is everything I love about Urban Fantasy! A fiesty troubled heroine, dark and complex storyline and a swoon-worthy hero! This novel took this series to the next level and had a lot of WTF moments peppered throughout the story.

I had a feeling I would love Rowen's story and I'm happy to say I was right! I connected with her right out of the gate and felt like we're twins. Her struggle with struggles with and her feelings of being rejected, unwanted and worthlessness from her family and magical community hit very close to home from. She built a hard shell around her try to protect but it ended up just building up resentment and bitterness towards her family and her mission. Her journey to acceptance and forgiveness was often brutal and rough but the past needs to be broken and sometimes confronting the past is painful but needed for ultimate healing.

There was a lot of bombshells dropped in this book. Rowen and her sister's lives will never be the same. It quite clear that the three sisters have been used by those who should have protected them (including their parents). Instead, I trust neither the Verian Council or the Dark set. It's quite clear that both groups have only ever wanted to control these three sisters for their own selfish purposes and never cared to help them. It should be on explosive finally and I can't wait to see these three sisters take them all down.

Now let's get to the love interest! Logan was just perfect for Rowan. As a non-magical, he was someone not caught up in the games and shenanigans against Rowan so he had no agenda other than to love this woman. Rowen has never had someone just love her for who she is and it was what she needed at the most difficult time in her life. my only quibble was there love/romance was way to insta-love. I wished the book had spent a little more time developing their relationship. it didn't always feel real or plausible to me.

This is a fun and engaging series and a perfect read for laying by the pool are lounging at the beach.

I have been pulled deeper into the Whelan sister’s world, and I love it!

There is so much that happens in this book / series and it’s extremely hard to tell you why you need to read it without giving spoilers. Here’s what you need to know:- each book is about one of the sisters, telling part of an overall journey in their own POV. The time frame is one after the other, none is overlapping and nothing is repeated. The series is based on witches and magic, but it’s more of a mystery discovery all things relating to the Book of Sindal. Each sister has a different specialty magic power that they use to try and keep the Book safe from evil hands. The trick is, who is on their side, and who is glamouring themselves trying to side with the sisters, and will they see through it all before it’s too late?!! Another aspect of these books is each sister encounters a love that is unlike anything they have experienced before.

The biggest thing you need to know is, if you have not read anything by DG Swank before, you’re missing out. She has a way of creating characters that are full of depth and life in worlds that you want to escape to. She is gifted in being about to write in all genres that you still get the same sense of enlightenment with the characters. This is my first series reading anything by Alessandra Thomas, and I’ll be looking more into her works. Lastly I want to comment on the covers. The three books have the most gorgeous covers and depicts the sisters perfectly. Don’t hold back, grab this series and fall into their lives of magic.

This is the book I wanted the most. I was more then excited to learn it was the second book. I was amazed in how the whole story unfolded. It went way beyond what I expected. Rowan is my favorite so far. She has to overcome so much more to me then her sisters do or did. Rowan's personality is the best. She has me grinning or laughing out loud. I think she is the key to keep them together. I am going to confess that I didn't know if I was going to like another police boyfriend but Logan works for me. This whole book and sisters are really going to blow up in the next book. I don't know if I am ready for that yet.

I have a confession - a few years ago I would have scoffed at the idea of reading PNR (ParaNormal Romance) or UF (Urban Fantasy) books. But then I discovered DGSwank. I decided to give her UF books a try since I had read and loved everything else she has written. So, I now have to admit that I love those genres - a well-written and well-developed book is always an enjoyable read. If you find an author you enjoy, branch out and give books on other genres a try. Believe me, I am so glad I did and I promise you won’t be disappointed.

So, onto my review for Reign of Mist. This is the second book in the “Book of Sindal” series and I absolutely loved it. I love the well-developed characters, the suspenseful plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat, and the way the books seamlessly flow from one to another.

This book focused on Rowan, the oldest of the Whelan sisters. I can certainly relate to Rowan and her feelings of inadequacy - I think there’s a little of that in all of us - which makes Rowan such a believable character. I truly can’t say enough about how good this book is - I liked the first book in the series but I absolutely LOVE this one. If you are looking for an exciting read, I urge you to pick up this series - I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Wow what just happened? This book has left me speechless.... Rowan is such an amazing person and someone we can all relate to. And the writing in this book is so amazing that you will not be able to put it down. There's so many twists, turns and things happening that you will find yourself thinking about this even after you have finished it.
You seriously need to read this book. I need more

Reign of Mist, book 2 in the Book of Sindal series, is told from the perspective of Rowan, the oldest Whelan sister. I really liked her character in the first novel, so I was excited for her POV! DGS and Alessandra Thomas did not disappoint! Rowan makes for a wonderfully protective big sister, with lots and lots of sass. I’m all about a sassy main character, so I loved her. Logan is a terrific love interest as well. He’s swoony and strong and just yum. I love how the series moves forward in different POVs, but that it’s still one continuous story and not a trilogy where each story can be read on their own. You definitely need to read book 1 to understand book 2. So much action, suspense, magic, and steam are found between these pages that I was on the edge of my seat the entire time dying to know what was coming next. Can’t wait for the conclusion to the series with Celeste’s story!

Reign of Mist is the second in the captivating new Book of Sindal Series.
Rowan is the oldest of the three Whelan sisters, whose family has been charged with guarding the magical Book of Sindal for generations. Being the oldest has its challenges, but Rowan is not easily intimidated. That’s a good thing because in this installment she is truly put to the test. And can she really trust Officer Logan Gillespie to understand the complexity of her situation?
The bonds of sisterhood are challenged and shocking secrets are unveiled as the Whelan sisters seeks to fulfill their responsibility to protect the Powerful Book of Sindal. DG Swank and Alessandra Thomas masterfully spin an intricate web of magic, action, and suspense that leave the reader eagerly awaiting Book Three and Celestes story!

Wow! Trust no one! Rowan believes her magic is weak and useless. A simple trick most witches and mages can do. Now the Dark sect wasn’t her to use her magic in ways she never imagined. Can Rowan believe she has the power inside her? If she finds this magic can use it to save herself and her sisters? So many twist and turns it’s make you wonder who’s good or evil? Whose trying to get power from the book? How does a non magical hottie fit in? I hope you open the book and find out! I can’t wait for book 3 now!

What do I think of this book?? The better question is where do I even begin. Reign of Mist leaves you needing more. It leaves you trying desperately to turn a page that isn’t there. This is Rowan’s story, her journey and her struggle with what she has always known, she’s just average.... or is she??? There are twists and some
Interesting realizations. I can’t wait for the third book!!!

Love this series and loved Rowan’s point of view! This story is full of twists and turns that keep you turning the pages! I had a hard time putting the book down because I wanted answers. I wanted to know Rowan’s piece of the story! I didn’t know who to trust and was completely surprised by one of the characters! . I hope to see more of Rowan in the last book of the series! I can’t wait for more! This is definitely a book that should be on your TBR list along with Descended from Shadows!

Normally I would say this isn't my favorite genre....but I may have to revise that thinking. This is book 2 of 3 in the series. In this one, we learn more about the oldest sister, Rowan. And of course there is a awesome fellow helping her, Logan. What a great read this is. Reign of Mist has everything; suspense, mystery, romance and action. I found myself devouring it in 2 sittings. There are a couple twists that I didn't see coming. I found myself swept up in the story and I honestly couldn't put it down. I especially enjoyed seeing Rowan gain self confidence and grow into her power. You know it is an exceptional book when you find yourself thinking about the characters in between reads and even after you have finished. I can't wait for book 3 when we learn more about Celeste. Thankfully the 3rd installment isn't too far off! Another reason to go ahead and give this one and book 1, a read.

So captivating!! This book grabbed my attention from chapter 1. I had a hard time putting it down! I love how the heroine, Rowan, is so strong and sassy, yet we see her vulnerable side and insecurities. Rowan thinks she weak yet she has hidden talents and she strength she never knew was there. I adore her love interest in this book. He's there for her through the most difficult time in her life and sees the good in her. Look forward to some suspense, plot twists, and romance. This book is amazing! If you haven't read book 1, Descended from Shadows, read that one before diving into this one.

WOW!! I didn’t see that coming!! Be prepared for twists you definitely never would have thought of. This book continues from the end of the first one, pulling you right back into the story from the get go. You won’t want to stop reading as you’ll be wondering what’s going to happen next. I love Rowan and her sassy attitude; but underneath it all she is such a loving, caring sister and person. Oh! and Logan.....he’s my new book boyfriend. I am amazed at the magical world that the authors have created and will be impatiently waiting for the third and final book of the series.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Readers Copy of this book.

Reign of Mist was as wonderful as I hoped. I really enjoyed Descended From Shadows and Phoebe and was left excited to learn more about Rowan and couldn't wait to see more of her strong feisty personality. Reign of Mist did not disappointed. I loved getting to know more about Rowan and the sisters past. There were definitely some unexpected twists, juicy details, and steamy love! I believe I like Logan more than Brandon (did not think that was possible). Reign of Mist left me extremely excited for Crown of Blood and learning more about Celeste.

Wow, book 2 was so much more than I could have hoped for.

Kidnapping, drama oh so much drama. a load of magic, some surprises on top of surprises, a dash of torture and believe it or not there was time for a bit of romance...lol

Reign of Mist was a totally enthralling and captivating adventure centered around Rowan the eldest sister who has always felt like the least powerful, worthless sister but I think Rowan is about to find out she is more powerful than she could have imagined, when everything is falling apart Rowan is the one who will be the backbone and strength of her family and she will what she has to save her sisters and her new man.

I LOVE Logan he is a keeper and a half I'm still on the fence about Brandon and I honestly want to see what Rowan does to him when they come face to face again...lol Rowan has some suppressed anger issues to work out with him...lol

I have to say I loved all the surprising twists and turns and I am super excited for book 3.

Wow, I cannot get over this book. I absolutely loved every minute of it. I found myself thinking about it randomly throughout the day. It was hard to put down from the start of the first page to the very last. I was literally at the edge of my seat several times, yelling at the book. We are taken on a journey with Rowan and learn a lot about the past. So many questions were answered, but like always, you are left with new questions. Logan (Rowan's love interest) is exactly what she needs and such a great guy! I am looking forward to see where Denise and Alessandra take this series with the next book.

If you are a bit hesitant, because this isn't your typical genre, I say give this series a try. You just might find you new favorite.

Holy wow! This book was from Rowen's perspective. I loved Rowan's sass! She was a sassy badass in the face of evil. I so did not know how this book was going to go. I guessed one thing towards the beginning and ended up being right. But everything else was a total shock to me. I don't know how to say more about it without spoilers so I'll just say I freaking loved it!! It was super intense and action packed! And the romance! Logan is my favorite. Love him! He was so protective and sweet. Rowan definitely deserves that. I can't wait until the next book but I don't want it to be over!

Reign of Mist by D.G. Swank and Alessandra Thomas
“The weaker Whelan, 4 stars”

Rowan is the weaker of the three Whelan sisters. All she can do is glamour where her younger sisters can do so much more. She’s always been over looked because of her unimportant talent. Even with the down turned noses from the rest of the witches and mages community Rowan knows her talent is needed when protecting the Book of Sin. Now they don’t have the Book of Sin and she doesn’t know what to do.
Local cop Logan wants Rowan. He doesn’t care who she is or what she does. He just wants her for her. When they are taken by The Dark Set there is only one way to get out. Logan will have to let Rowan lead. The question is will he be able to keep her grounded in the truth?
I genuinely liked Rowan and Logan. They are both very protective people and they worked well together. I liked how in Reign of Mist Rowan got in on the action. She stepped up and didn’t crumble. Logan was exactly what she needed.
Now with that said….we get to what I didn’t like. In book one and Reign of Mist they pushed how Rowan was overlooked, and maybe I’m crazy but I felt like that rolled into how Swank and Thomas wrote the story. Was there action in the story? Yes. Did I feel like Rowan grew into her power and realize she was more than other Glamourists? Yes. But personally, I felt like her story was a little rushed. There wasn’t a lot of just her and Logan outside of being taken hostage. Even with that said I think the story deserves 4 stars, I just wish Rowan got a little more attention. I cannot wait though to see how Swank and Thomas wrap up this series and who can and cannot be trusted.
Plot-4/5
Characters-4/5
Heat-4/5
Writing style-4/5
Overall-4/5

I'm really enjoying this series. This book focuses on Rowan and Logan. I like Rowan so much. I think she is particularlly appealing mix of fierce and protective. A combo I attribute to her being the oldest sibling and her low self esteem from being what is the least powerful of the three sisters. Logan, was just a super book boyfriend. I loved how he was so supportive of Rowan but most importantly how he was into her. Just her and only her. Everything else didn't matter to him. That kind of love is magical, and Rowan certainly deserved to be loved like that. As for the story, it was very entertaining and kept your attention. Drama, mystery, excitement, twists, magic, action, suspense, heart and heat are all cleverly woven throughout to create a book that will have you on edge and fully invested in what will happen next. I am posting a independent, impartial review.

Holy seven levels of hell!! This book was SO good! I couldn’t put it down! Just when you think you’ve figured it out, plot twist! Rowan is the oldest Whelan sister but the least magical in her eyes. Overshadowed by her magically stronger sisters, Rowan hides her insecurities in the form of her wickedly, sassy, personality. Don’t even get me started on Logan Gillespie. By the goddess, he may be human but he definitely deserves an honorable mention in the swoon department! I can’t wait for book three, but I’m also sad that it’s almost over. This series has so much potential beyond a trilogy and I really, truly hope that it’s given a chance to soar because I definitely want more!

Reign of Mist by D.G. Swank and Alessandra Thomas is book two in their Book opf Sindal Trilogy. Reign of Mist is not a standalone. Youz must read the books in order, or you'll be lost. The previous book is Descended from the Shadows and tells Brandon and Phoebe's story.
Rowan is the oldest of the Whelan sisters and the one with the weakest magic, it seems. After Celeste and Phoebe were rescued and brought back home, new danger and adventures awaits the sisters. More secrets are revealed, truths, ugly and uglier come to light.
Reign of Mist is a fast paced, action packed mind fugde and had me hooked from chapter one. The book is darker than book one, has more violence and more nailbiting suspense. And now, after literally just finishing this book, I'm sitting here with a major book ahngover and can't wait to get my hands on the next instalment, Crown of Blood. I recommend the book and the series, 5+ Stars.

This is the second book of an amazing series following three sisters who are tasked with protecting the world from an evil book. The first book followed the middle sister (for once they are not neglected), the second books follows the oldest sister, who is considered to be the least powerful. This book has some interesting twists and insight to Rowena's power. The sister's make a brief but powerful cameo in this book. This book left me on such a cliff hanger, I can't wait for the third book. I hope there are more than just three books.

Such an amazing book. I love the second book of the Book of Sindal series, Reign of Mist.

Rowan is the oldest of the Whelan sisters and this book is her story. This book has it all, it pulled me in from the very beginning and I didn’t want to put it down.

If your looking for a great urban fantasy book and/or series, look no further. You’ll love Reign of Mist. I cannot wait for the third book.

Reign of Mist
Wow!
Wow wow wow! Reign of Mist is the second book of this series and it’s amazing! The Whelan sisters find themself in the middle of evil yet again. This book is from Rowan’s POV. Rowan is sassy, strong, and has overcome so much in life. She may be one of my favorite book characters I’ve had in a while. Don’t want to give any spoilers but Logan...SWOONING over him! Anxiously waiting the next book and Celeste’s POV. All good things come to an end and I have a feeling the end of this series is going to be EPIC!

Excellent! Excellent! Excellent! When I picked this up, I had a lot going on and couldn’t commit a day to sit down and read so I read it with a lot of stop and go. I felt like I was watching the most action-packed, gripping TV show. At the end of every chapter I could not wait to pick up RoM again and see what was going to happen next. I loved Phoebe’s story in Descended from Shadows but Rowan’s story surpasses that by a mile! I was able to figure out one “surprise” pretty early on but a lot of the story kept me guessing. And, the action builds up like a snowball going down a mountain – it just keeps building! Highly recommended! I can’t wait to read Celeste’s story and see how this all comes together. Come on August 6!!

So good!!
Reign of Mist was the perfect continuation to the first book. I loved learning about the next Whelan sister, Rowan, and seeing things from her point of view. Her powers are so different from her sister’s and it is so cool seeing all the details the authors put into these sisters’ powers because I think they are so original. I also absolutely loved Logan and his character in this book. And the story line! It is so good and there are so many unexpected twists I definitely did not see coming. I don’t think there’s anything about this book I didn’t like. I cannot wait to read book three and learn more about the last Whelan sister!!
