Nevada and Yardley meet in high school. They date for a couple of years and are madly in love with each other. Nothing in the world is more important than their love. But Nevada is a year ahead of Yardley, and when he gets offered a basketball scholarship to a school hundreds of miles away they promise to make things work. Until one day Nevada gets a text from a friend back home informing him that Yardley broke her promise and is cheating on him. Broken hearted, he refuses her calls and denies her the chance to explain. Ten years later, he returns to his hometown, now a widower and single father to two little girls. And he absolutely, 100%, wants nothing to do with Yardley, the one that broke his heart.
I hated this book. There, I said it. And I hate saying it because I am a fan of Renshaw’s, but this plot was such a clusterfuck, I couldn’t stand it.
First issue: The main conflict of this book is instigated by a MC’s unwillingness to communicate resulting in a massive misunderstanding, and I loathe plots that use that device. I see it as a cop-out; an easy way to create drama without having to really provide a reason or purpose. And in this case, I just don’t get it. He gets a text from some acquaintance, takes that guy’s word as truth, and never speaks to the love of his life about it? His justification is that if he did listen to her, he would forgive her and look like a fool for taking her back. BUT HE HAD ABSOLUTELY NO PROOF THAT IT EVEN HAPPENED! JUST ONE GUY’S WORD! It’s ludicrous.
And then all Yardley does is send a letter? And he sends it back? If I was desperately in love with a man that hated me due to a misunderstanding, I don’t care how far away he lives, I’d be on his doorstep ASAP demanding he have the decency to at least listen to me.
Second: Use of the “man moves on and woman pines for him and remains celibate” trope. Not long after breaking up with Yardley he meets another woman, falls in love, marries her and has two beautiful children. Yes, he loses his wife, but at least he experienced her love. All the while Yardley marries a friend for altruistic reasons, never consummates the marriage, and never sleeps with another man in the ten years she’s apart from Nevada.
Third: The timeline is confusing. She’s 16 in 2008, but present day she’s now 28. That doesn’t add up.
Fourth: There was no reason for Yardley to have to marry Griffin. He was 18, legally an adult. If he didn’t want his parents making life-or-death decisions for him, all he had to do was get a living will outlining his requests and give Yardley POA. No marriage needed. He could’ve googled it and found that out.
The story’s foundation is too unstable, the characters are irrational, and the ending sprints from the final confrontation to HEA. And it’s exhausting.

I love second chance romances, but I absolutely HATE when the cause for drama is misunderstandings and miscommunication – or in this case, no communication at all.

I have read other books by this author and loved them. But this wasn't the case. I HATED the hero. He was a prick. He had ZERO redeeming qualities, and I just wanted to murder him the entire time. The lead chick was nothing GRAND either. While they spent 10 years apart, he moved on, had a beautiful wife and two lovely kids, and his NBA career. She had nothing, she didn't even date, or look at another penis in 10 year. THE ONLY reason he move back is because his wife dies, after she gives birth to their second kid. He does not move back for Yardley. He is an ass and ignores her, and she does all the chasing which makes her look weak and pathetic and just freaking crazy. He doesn't want to know what happened 10 years ago, he doesn't want her, it is so obvious. He had a great life with his now deceased wife. Well finally Yardley tells him what happened ten years ago, and then he is like oh okay. But if I had never met my now dead wife I wouldn't have my girls, so okay. two years later, they have twins, and they all live happily ever after. I'm sorry, but I would not want to be treated that way. She was like a doormat, and she just kept coming back for more. That was not okay. At all.
I was super excited to read this book. I saw these reviews and I was like yay! But no, this was not a love story. I get that every reader is different but this did not give me the warm fuzzies at all, in fact it made me want to throw my kindle. The only way I got through it was by venting my frustration to a fellow book friend.
So no, this book was not for me. I liked their names though. Super unique.

I was excited for this book. And then....I was disappointed in this book. And then I was just plain pissy with this book. For all the things wrong with the book, I did start out enjoying. I have read so many books where the misunderstanding would have never happened if they communicated, but this one was even beyond that. There were just so many things wrong it for me to seriously question all these 5 stars. :(

How in the ever living hell are you going to allow the love of your life to believe you have cheated on him? How do sit idle while he ignores you? She lived in the same town as his mother and siblings - if he didn't answer her call, go to them!
Why not explain in the letter instead of saying you can't explain it in a letter? And then she watches him live his life on national television, get married and have children? Who does that? Who would ever let that happen?
Now the whole mess to begin with - the boy knew she was in love with her boyfriend and he still went after her, even kissing her. Why would she remain friends with him when it is quite obvious that he has an agenda? Why put yourself in the predicament for something else to happen when your boyfriend is miles away and trusting you?
And for parents that were always there for her and a part of her life...why did they allow a marriage at 18 to a boy that is not her boyfriend and the boy she loves? Why would they ever allow Yardley to marry Griff?
There was a very simple solution to Griffin's problem - GO FILE A LIVING WILL WITH A LAWYER!!!!!!!
You don't get married so the 18 year old has someone has more say to his life than his parents.
You don't allow your boyfriend to think the worst and move on without ever explaining anything!!!

The amount of hate i have for this stupid fucking book is actually unreal. Everything could have been solved if those two stupid, stubborn motherfuckers just communicated - a simple fucking conversation. They could have hashed everything out rather than leaving it for 10 fucking years!!! That would mean the hero didn't need to go off and fall in love with another fucking girl and have children. Just fuck off. Worst book I have read in years. I fucking hate the 'lack of communication = drama' trope in books, it's fucking stupid.

Pros: Angst on point, LOVED the beginning as the chemistry was palpable. I also ADORE plots such as this.
Cons: Irritating, door-mat like heroine that completely broke the hero's heart. Could not blame him for how he reacted. I also think the hero had already moved on(heaps and bounds, mind you!) and I did not buy the 'love' he thought he still had for the heroine.
Overall, just a meh read for me.

Well, what a story! I loved this book. It has everything! Love, friendship, second chances, misunderstandings, heartache. Oh, and also, Winter's quirky names, which I absolutely adore!!
Yardley Deveraux and Nevada Kane!
Yardley has just moved to a small town, where she knows no one at all. She feels like she has 2 heads being the new girl and everyone staring but the handsome Nevada Kane doesn't care. He thinks she's beautiful and will do everything he can to prove he wants to get to know her, and it's not some kind of joke. When she finally realises it not, they become inseparable! Their love is pure and brilliant and everlasting.
Nevada is the star of the basketball team and has the chance at going to college and getting everything he wants. But he also wants Yardley and he plans to have both. He wants to give her everything.
They make promises and plans for their future together before Nevada goes off to college. They plan out their life but nothing turns out the way the both planned. Yardley does something to break a promise she made but it's nothing like you think.
Fast forward 10 years and Nevada is back in his home town, with his daughters in tow and he still hates Yardley. But Yardley is still holding out hope for a reunion with Nevada. But he's doesn't make it easy.
I really enjoyed this book. I loved the little turns in this book and some were truly heartbreaking to read. Neither have had a good life these past 10 years but I think, that Yardley thinks, Nevada has had it a lot worse than she has. But to be honest, I think Yardley has had it the toughest and she still strong at the end of it. And she still loves Nevada with all her heart. I really don't like the way he treats her though, I wanted to slap him one and give her a little bit of a shake. But after everything, I was still rooting for these two. I wanted their love for each other to be strong again. The only thing I wanted was for Yardley to make him grovel a little bit after he found out the truth.

I don’t know why I picked this book as I was browsing through Amazon but I was curious about it and asking myself why haven’t I read a book by this author unbeknownst to me I have, but after reading the blurb, I was intrigued.
I’m surprised that it’s good (ain’t gonna lie) so good that I’m rating it 41/2 STARS. Don’t ask me why it’s half and not a full five cause let me say I don’t like Nevada I just found him too ignorant in a sense that I felt for Yardley and I didn’t like how she gave in so easily to him.
The storyline is amazing but I wished that the author hadn’t made Yardley a bit of a doormat (sorry) but it’s how I feel. This story is definitely a second chances at love and yet I was drawn more to Yardley’s character than Nevada’s. Winter Renshaw knows how to capture an alpha male that’s like a bear lol but I tried at times to feel emotional how Nevada’s character is, but it still didn’t make me like him lesser in the end.

Una de las pocas lecturas de las que tenía expectativas. Podría escribir largo y tendido, pero todo se reduce a una relación tóxica que reflota años después solo para conveniencia de un padre soltero que no sabe cómo solucionar su vida. Y la tonta que siempre estuvo enamorada de él cae en la trampa porque nunca pudo superarlo. Incluso cuando se enteró de lo rápido que él siguió con su vida; ni siquiera cuando se separaron porque él no fue capaz de dejarla explicarse; siquiera porque tuvo el tupé de rechazarla y ningunearla hasta el último segundo, haciendo que ella se arrastre hasta su casa por perdón 🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩
Sintetizando, él consiguió la niñera/revolcada fija que necesitaba. Y ella... todo da a entender que "salió" del pozo de la depresión en el que vivía cómoda, pero nunca quedó claro si pudo retomar los estudios a los que pensaba volver por evolución/satisfacción personal 🤦♀️.
El #AmigaDateCuenta queda tan bien en este libro.
Sintetizando, él consiguió la niñera/revolcada fija que necesitaba. Y ella... todo da a entender que "salió" del pozo de la depresión en el que vivía cómoda, pero nunca quedó claro si pudo retomar los estudios a los que pensaba volver por evolución/satisfacción personal 🤦♀️.

Didn’t feel it
I really wanted to like this story, the premise of it is actually pretty great but I wasn’t a fan of the execution.
For two people who were supposed to be completely and utterly in love, they obviously didn’t outwardly show it. Hardly anyone around them seemed to know about how serious they were and when they ended nobody seemed to wonder why. Apparantly nobody in this town communicates with each other outside of single, vague texts without any follow up questions or explanations.
Everything in this story came down to a lack of communication and a lack of respect for anyone, including themselves. It just didn’t work for me.

Aunque todo me pareció que sucedió muy rápido es una historia que se disfruta y que te hace soltar una que otra lagrima al final o en mi caso eso sucedió, cada libro que he leído de esta autora me ha gustado así que tenía que leer este si que si.
El plot de papá soltero me encanta así que esa fue otra de las razones por las que esta historia me gustó.
Aunque todo me pareció que sucedió muy rápido es una historia que se disfruta y que te hace soltar una que otra lagrima al final o en mi caso eso sucedió, cada libro que he leído de esta autora me ha gustado así que tenía que leer este si que si.
El plot de papá soltero me encanta así que esa fue otra de las razones por las que esta historia me gustó.

Winter Renshaw has written a beautiful yet at times heartbreaking story about young love ,broken promises.. of huge life changing decisions and lives that fell apart. This is such a tale and make sure to get the tissues at the ready.
This book starts off in the past and we get a glimpse at young love Yardley Devereaux & Nevada Kane . This is them 10 years ago when life was good for them and they were madly in love. This is when she had found her happy ever after with Nevada Kane but circumstances suddenly changed and she broke her promise to him and now because of this, he will never forgive her.
Fast forward to the present 10 years later, Nevada Kane has returned to the scene of the crime so to speak- the town where he left his true love and ended everything with her 10 years before. He didn’t want to come home but with his wife’s sudden death and having two children to raise, its time he came home to be near his mother. But Nevada as well as the readers know he could run into Yardley at any time… Yardley has pined for her true love, her lost love for 10 long years. She would do anything for a 2nd chance with Nevada but will he ever let her explain what truly happened or is Nevada still blinded by the past to let her explain ? You can truly feel the pain she is in as she attempts over and over to explain , and how much pain she is in and has been in over a choice she made. I felt Nevada was a jerk at times but I get why he was. This was such an emotionally touching story, one that showed such range by Winter on human emotions , of true love and of jealously. Of what human emotions can push us into doing. There are many twists in this story that take Nevada and Yardley’s love thru a journey. Will they finally get their HEA? This is one story that you must read, that you do not want to miss!!!!

Not what I was expecting. A big disappointment. It had some redeeming qualities and could have been a really good story. Too much time spent on misunderstandings that could have been solved simply with a little C O N V E R S A T I O N! Those kinds of second chance romances drive me insane. It was relatively easily fixable -- and so unnecessary. Time spent on things that weren't even important and not enough time spent on the crux of the matter. And then a mad dash to the finale that was less than thrilling.

How much hurt could have been avoided by something as simple as “talking”. If there ever was any proof needed for that it is the story of Yardley and Nevada in The Rebound
by Winter Renshaw.
I love this authors storytelling and writing. But I have to admit the inability of these characters to talk when it was necessary annoyed me. But on the other hand I would not have had the chance to meet them if there was no story to tell.
It is a story of friendship, love, decisions made out of love and friendship as well as the second chance to right the wrong.
The leads were perfect for each other and their journey back to where they should have been all along was wonderful. But please fellow readers if we all learn something from this it should be “TALK” not “ASSUME”….
I am sorry that I can not tell you more because anything further than the blurb would spoil the journey.
I loved something else the author did. She opened the decision to the reader how much he wanted to know and when.
You see these kind of stories have “titanic” character; you know that ship will be sinking so why should you read the story fully knowing it is going to end bad.
Stories that have “now-and-then” character all have this issue and therefore readers (like me) sometimes have difficulties in reading the “Train-wreck-waiting-to-happen” – I loved how the author treated this issue and I honestly would love to have it handled that way in all the stories that deal with “Now-and-Then”
In total it was another great story from this author that I can fully recommend.

I thoroughly enjoyed this standalone, second-chance romance from one of my favorite writer, Winter Renshaw.
Yardley Dove Devereaux, the new girl in town, caught the attention of Nevada Kane, a basketball star on the rise; he was mesmerized by her beauty. What started as friendship slowly developed into deeper one. As lovers they became inseparable. But an offer came to Nevada to play basketball to another state, Yardley knew this day will come, and she won’t hinder this opportunity for Nevada to be a famous athlete. Promises made to each other until Yardley broke it. Yardley wanted to explain her side, but Nevada won’t hear any of it. It took ten years for their path to cross again when Nevada went back to town with two small daughters in tow. As much as possible both, Yardley and Nevada, try to ignore each other. But it’s obvious they still have some lingering feelings for each other. Will they be able to forgive and forget what happened years ago and move on?
This book is like a roller coaster ride of emotion for me, one moment I’d like to shake Yardley for what she’s did (breaking her promise to Nevada) and then when I knew the reason behind it, I’m on her side. Winter definitely wrote another heartfelt story of love, lost and found. Her written words just flow eloquently and characters are well defined. The plot of the story will entice you to never stop reading until the last page. It was a great read for me. Highly recommended!

Whiplash!
Good grief, talk about angst. Winter Renshaw is cruel to her readers with the story of Nevada and Yardley. You can't tell if these characters are coming or going throughout most of the book, but I loved it anyway.
The blurb pretty much says it all, except for the millions of feelings that are passing between these two. It's a given that Nevada is heartbroken and confused after losing his wife and heading back to his home town with his little girls. The same home town that the love of his young life still lives in.
Yardley tried to explain ten years ago, he didn't want to listen then and he doesn't want to listen now. Nevada is stubborn. More stubborn than Yardley remembers, however when she finally sees him in person again, he's everything she's always wanted and more now that he's all grown up.
The book is well written and I enjoyed the back and forth between this couple as they tried to get to the place they were ten years ago. Nevada was annoying at times, but I gave him a pass by the end. The Rebound reads as a stand alone with two epilogues to wrap things up.

The Rebound is split into two halves, each dealing with the past and then the present in the lives of these characters. I enjoyed reading about the bond between Yardley and Nevada in the first part, their love for each other was sweet and heartwarming, seemingly perfect and unbreakable. I loved this couple, their relationship was honest and beautifully described.
The second half of the story is set in the present and follows the fallout of decisions made ten years ago. Although extremely well written, I became increasingly frustrated with the attitude of these characters and just wanted to shake both of them to get them to see sense. Life and its struggles have taken its tole on the pair of them and this is reflected in their actions. The angst and drama was perfect for the story but the lack of communication and Nevada's stubbornness irritated me and from a purely personal point of view, I found the second half quite difficult to read. I cannot fault Ms Renshaw's writing and certainly look forward to reading more from this talented author. However, sadly, I feel this book was just not for me.

the first half of the book dealt with Yardley and Nevada's young love. We see how they meet and how they fell in love. Young love has many pit falls. I was very frustrated with Yardley in the beginning of the book. The entire situation with Griffin was mishandled. I will attribute that to her youth. Nevada's actions were equally frustrating and continued throughout the 2nd half of the book which dealt with the present times. Yardley gave up a lot when she made the decisions that she made. Although she thought she was doing the right thing, she sacrificed a lot. I didn't like how she didn't move on. She was kind of stagnant. I understand why Nevada moved on. For him, it was completely over. He avoided his hometown and any mention of her for 10 years. There were a couple of times in the story when the present times did not back up the past. I wanted to love this book but it just really didn't do it for me. I love the beginning but when we got into why they separated years ago it just kind of lost me. I felt like Yardley was altruistic in her reasons for doing what she did but that just didn't work for me. I felt like it was a stupid reason and there were other things that could have been done to take care of that. Also I kind of hated that she was alone all that time. I mean move on. I kinda of felt Nevada because I can hold a grudge but he should have let her speak her peace way before he did. While I liked parts of this book, I didn't love it but I think its just an it's not you it me situation.

I do like the author but- Edit turns out I dont
DNF 28% Life's to short to keep reading a shitty story with completely unjustified, irrational drama. I'm not going to stick around for the big reveal of the misunderstanding that broke them up and the subsequent forgiveness from the heroine when the dudes an asshole and she (I'm guessing here) didn't really do anything wrong in the first place. She'll just feel like she derseved it and will take him back, no questions asked because even TEN YEARS LATER she still loves him and only him, even though he clearly moved on enough to get married and have 2 daughters with a women he banged the night he heard a rumor.

In the past we get how close Nevada and Yardley were, how they met, their promises to each other and how things fell apart.
In the present we get two people who in some senses have moved on but who are also stuck in the past and are unable to get over their hurt and love for each other. Its a story of young love, misunderstandings and a second chance at true love.

I simply don't like any plot which revolves around completely resolvable miscommunications. There wasn't anything here to work with and I just felt irritated by the characters. This was just a silly pretext for a breakup turned into a ridiculously easy reconciliation after ten years apart.

This was just OK. In my opinion the characters were not likable, especially the H he was just immature.
