The Association for Institutional Research in
the Upper Midwest (AIRUM) invites you to submit presentation proposals for our
annual conference on November 1-3, 2023, in Bloomington, Minnesota (near the
Mall of America). This conference is an excellent opportunity for
practitioners, scholarly researchers, and decision-makers in the Upper Midwest
to meet and share research, tools, and best practices in institutional
effectiveness (IE) and institutional research (IR). The conference theme is
“Data Democratization: Empowering Through Access and Transparency.”
SUBMISSIONS
The
deadline for proposal submission is Tuesday, August 15th, 2023. (The proposal status
will be notified via email by September 1, 2023.)
You will be asked to provide a list of
presenters, a 60-word abstract that will appear in the program book, and a
200-word narrative that will be used by the committee to review proposals for
acceptance. Don’t wait; submit your proposal today.
FORMATS
Presentation - A 45-minute presentation including a Q&A period on an IE/IR-related
theoretical and/or methodological issue as well as best practices and tools to
enhance IE/IR efforts.
Panel
Discussion - A 45-minute discussion involving 3-4
panelists who can share different perspectives on a topic relevant to
IE/IR. A session may start with a brief
opening statement/overview by each participant before allowing for an engaging discussion
with the audience.
Hands-On
Workshop - A 45-minute interactive workshop where a
facilitator takes attendees through a series of activities to provide training
or improve technical skills.
RELEVANT TOPICS
We welcome
proposals in all IE/IR-related areas. Some areas of practice attendees have
expressed interest in include the following:

data visualizations,
·
data analytics,
·
predictive modeling for
admissions, enrollment, and retention,
·
assessing effective student
support interventions,
·
data governance and management
(e.g., cybersecurity, oversight),
·
effective reporting practices
(including adapting to different audiences),
·
accreditation and compliance
reporting (e.g., self-studies, in-person vs. virtual visits, etc.),
·
equity (e.g., disparate impact by
race, gender, socioeconomic status, etc.),
·
operational planning (e.g.,
streamlining, aligning, budgeting), cost and ROI of initiatives,
·
student satisfaction,
·
and strategic planning (e.g., new
program launches, fundraising campaigns).
